This shows the progression of a project to cover a courtyard with a glazed gridshell in Somerset.
From initial architects concept sketches and rough card model, the form was explored by Momentum engineering and Xylotek, and a computer model generated using a point cloud survey.
Oak laths were bent and laminated on CNC cut jigs in Xylotek’s Bristol workshop before being pre-assembled on the steel ringbeam. Glass was then surveyed, and the whole structure was then transported to site.
Following re-assembly on site, the gutters and flashings were completed by Mouldings, and the structure was glazed by IPIG with individually cut double-glazed units.
