The Clients were looking to create a property which has some green credentials, and which would also minimise energy costs.

The rear elevation introduces a more contemporary treatment of windows and glazing with a recessed balcony feature that seeks to take advantage of the open and southerly aspect.

The design of the south elevation seeks to maximise solar gain in winter, which is why the balcony is arranged the way it is, whilst also ensuring sufficient shading in summer to minimise solar gain by virtue of the balcony

Overall the level of accommodation is modest with the garage attached to the house and with the creation of a highly insulated building.
