The brief was for ten new classrooms including two laboratories, together with staff accommodation and additional learning support rooms. Space for building is limited on the campus but we had planned the Jubilee science building to be extended when built 13 years ago. We have built in the Clayesmore vernacular we have developed over the years which makes reference to the Waterhouse Stable building without incurring great additional cost.
The change in levels around the site has allowed a ground floor and an upper ground floor entrance which makes this large building feel small. The surprise is that in the roofspace we have added to the brief an air conditioned and well ventilated Examinations room to give the students the best conditions for this stressful work.
