The client’s brief was simple, to covert an old garage into a bright and airy studio in which to enjoy her artistic endeavours. As a listed building it was necessary to carefully consider the historic merit of the building and complement and preserve its key features. Sympathetic fenestration was introduced in addition to maintaining the existing roof and its parapeted gable.
Restructuring the roof to increase the ceiling height, improving the spaces thermal efficiency, and maximising natural light ingress were key components in achieving the client’s vision. The finished studio is bright, open-plan and practical, a perfect setting to be creative and inspired.
