This 19th Century previously converted stone mill building underwent a full refurbishment and a small extension to improve the level of internal comfort for the owners.
The works included the reordering of various internal rooms, a south facing veranda, and the conversion of a flat roofed workshop into a light and airy art studio, by adding a pitched roof with north facing roof lights. This was connected to the main mill building with a modest glazed summer room.
The external fabric throughout was thermally upgraded by lining the inner face of external walls with insulation and installing double glazed windows and doors. This combined with a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system (MVHR) greatly improved the building’s efficiency and its heating and cooling demand.
