St Michael’s Church is situated in the small town of Mere and is Grade I Listed. The Church dates back to the 11th Century and is very popular due to its Architectural and Historic interest including four enormous pinnacles each topped with a stone cross and metal pennant.
Unfortunately, one of the corroded pennants fell from the tower in 2019, prompting the PCC to commissione a survey of the pinnacles. This revealed the stone crosses were in poor condition and repairs were required to all four pinnacles. Church architect Brian Watts was instructed to prepare a scheme for the repair of pinnacles and regilding of pennants and clockface with associated stonework repairs. Work was approved by Historic England and the Diocesan Advisory Committee, and the project was completed in May 2024.
