The Grosvenor had been refurbished but the developer failed to appreciate the shortcomings of a plan of the building where the visitor entered a passage with 90 degree turns through narrow doorways making a very poor entrance to the building. The spaces did not flow, and steps restricted disabled access.
The key to opening up the plan was a conservatory across the courtyard to effectively form an entrance hall and link between the bar areas and the dining areas. Rather than contrive a period solution it was decided to use polished stainless steel and glass which reduces the visual impact of the building.
The floor has been paved including the courtyard using Cotswold stone setts, and a French fountain installed. The sliding doors have ultra-narrow frames and slide back allowing the space to extend into the courtyard. Internally an office passage and toilet have been opened up to form a private dining room. New arched doors provided to divide the dining areas, and new doors inserted to open into the reception. New spacious light Ladies’ and disabled toilets have been formed behind the resited bar.
